Programme

Lethaia publishes contributions of international interest in the fields of palaeontology and stratigraphy. Information on fossil organisms should be of general interest to palaeontologists and biologists, and articles on systematic palaeontology should deal with the higher units on which our concepts of phylogeny and classification are based. New features, new forms, and significant changes in the known distribution of fossils also constitute important criteria for acceptance of articles. Palaeobiology, integrating the study of fossil organisms with modern biology, is a core topic of the journal. Biostratigraphy, analyzing the relative timing and correlation of biological and environmental events, is another. Articles on stratigraphy should meet the same requirements for general interest and deal with stratigraphic principles, correlations of at least continent-wide importance, new occurrences or revisions that establish major features in palaeogeography, etc. The mongraph series Fossils and Strata provides an outlet for material that is too extensive or too specialized to be placed in Lathaia or Boreas.
